A pay-line on a slot machine is where the symbols need to lineup in order for you to win. The most basic slot machine, the 3-reel slot has one pay-line in the center. most complicated slots have up to 88 pay lines. These require you to place a bet for each line if you want any winning combinations to pay if they land on that line. for example, a $.05 slot machine that has 20 pay lines would require you to bet $1.00 to cover every single line.

A slot machines payout percentage is a very important piece of information. It is a lot like the odds listed on the back of lottery tickets (1/3.25).
